Mystery Science
Over nearly three years, I have been the primary visual storyteller for the “Mystery Doug” videos by Mystery Science for elementary age students, schools and families. These short mini-lessons are from their YouTube channel, but they offer an in-depth curriculum for schools, some of which I have also helped create.
The YouTube videos alone have millions of views, but these videos are seen by hundreds of thousands of students every week around the world. Mystery Science has recently been acquired by Discovery Education and is anticipated to have an even greater reach.
I create every finished video in Premiere from a script in less than a week. Mystery Science has a very simple and low-tech aesthetic yet goes for high impact in terms of learning. We cover a huge range of topics and I am faced with new visual problems to solve — from illustrating abstract scientific concepts to bringing to life events that don’t have historical imagery. I love making these stories visually engaging in many different ways!
